Formerly known as CORGI, the Council for Registered Gas Installers, the Gas Safe Register replaced it on April 1st 2009. It is an independent body who certify that engineers are qualified to carry out repairs to gas appliances, and it is also able to mediate disputes between customers and tradesmen where the competency of the tradesman has been called into question. All Gas Safe registered engineers carry an ID card with them.
